Hello Fitness Enthusiasts!
According to the Mayo Clinic, “Too much sitting seems to increase the risk of death from cardiovascular disease and cancer.” One study compares those who sat in front of the TV or other electronic entertainment for two hours compared to four. The study found that those who logged four or more hours a day of screen time had, “A nearly 50% increased risk of death from any cause, and about 125% increased risk of events associated with cardiovascular disease, such as chest pain (angina) or heart attack.”
Realize that this time includes time spent at a work computer, and that, also according to the study, “Sitting in front of the TV isn't the only concern. Any extended sitting — such as behind a desk at work or behind the wheel — can be harmful. What's more, spending a few hours a week at the gym or otherwise engaged in moderate or vigorous activity doesn't seem to significantly offset the risk.”
So what is the solution to sitting? Standing, of course! In fact, I’m standing right now, and if you’re sitting down reading this, shame on you! Stand up, and live a little.
Here are a few simple ways you can incorporate more standing into your day:
The bottom line is to get moving throughout the day, and to stay moving. The impact of movement — even leisurely movement — can be profound. For starters, you'll burn more calories. This might lead to weight loss and increased energy. Pair this with a properly designed exercise and nutrition program, available at www.FOWFitness.com, and you will be well on your way to a complete life transformation.
